Normally, when a new AutoCad release is available (i.e 2010) this release saves files in 2010 version format.
The older sw (i.e 2007) will not be able to read 2010 files.
So AutoDesk force users to upgrade from 2007 to 2010 with extra money.
This autocad plugin provided by SolidWorks, makes opening of the newer files with old AutoCad versions possible, and it is freeware.
